Gemma Takes First Place At The Event Insurance Services Winter Dressage Championships
Newbury - based dressage rider Gemma Green took first place in this year’s Speedi-Beet Advanced Medium Winter Championship at the Event Insurance Services Winter Dressage Championship at Solihull Riding Club.
Gemma (23) is already an experienced competitor and is building up a good team of horses including her winning horse on Showtime.
Known as Arnie at home, Showtime has been a delight to ride and own. The 17hh, dark bay stallion is now eight-years-old and is owned by Gemma’s mother, Jenny.
Said Gemma: “It was quite nerve racking in the arena as we entered. We were the second to go and there was quite an electric atmosphere. Once we had finished, I felt it was a good test and should come out with quite a high score, but I never thought we could have won. I was overjoyed.
“We have training sessions with different trainers to keep my riding skills and Arnie’s dressage skills at the top.
“My father owns and runs a stud farm with my mother and I work and look after the horses there full time. We also have eight dressage horses on the stud too, and several racehorses.”
Gemma and Arnie have already qualified for the Advanced Medium Regional Championships this summer and are hoping to qualify for the Prix St Georges Championships.
