British Horse Feeds Proud to Support Red Dragon Festival of Endurance 2009

The 2009 Red Dragon Festival of Endurance was a huge success as competitors enjoyed the good weather and breath taking scenery over the roof of Mid Wales whilst competing for a huge array of prizes.

British Horse Feeds were there to support the event and were proud to sponsor the 'Golden Dragon' and Dragon's Tail'.

The winner of the Dragon's Tail Carol Jones, who has been competing for over ten years with her horse Ptolemaeus, was delighted to win a year's supply of Speedi-Beet courtesy of British Horse Feeds. Carol has owned Ptolemaeus, her 16 year old pure bred Arab gelding since he was a yearling.

Based near Tregaron, West Wales Carol has competed at Red Dragon in previous years securing second place twice so this year's first was the icing on the cake as earlier in the year Carol was also awarded her Golden Horseshoe at Exmoor.

Said Carol: "We have had a fantastic season and winning the Dragon's Tail was definitely a highlight, Ptolemaeus will now complete his third 100 mile ride next month before moving to shorter distance rides."

In second place came Ann Harrison and Millennium Chorus, winning a six month supply of Speedi-Beet.

The Golden Dragon winner Jill Kent, who is based near Swindon in Wiltshire, thoroughly enjoyed the ride on her 15 year old pure bred Arab gelding Bitterwell Spirit.

Jill has owned Bitterwell Spirit since he was a three year old and the talented pair have clocked up 4800 competitive kilometres over the last ten years. Highlights include EnduranceGB Supreme National Champion 2006 and qualifying for the British Team Squad.

Said Jill: "We had a fantastic ride and the weather was the best it has been at Red Dragon in years."

Jill won a year's supply of feed including Speedi-Beet, Fibre-Beet and Cool 'n' Calm Mix.

Melissa Wiley and Ben Fhah came in second place, followed by Eileen Hackett and Starlight of Grangeway. Both riders were awarded with a six month supply of Speedi-Beet.

Simon Parker of British Horse Feeds said: "Speedi-Beet is ideal for endurance horses as it is high in fibre, which helps provide the required stamina for horses to compete over long distances."

Added Simon: "Speedi-Beet is used around the world and is the sugar beet feed of choice for top endurance riders."

Speedi-Beet from British Horse Feeds provides rapid re-hydration for performance horses whilst optimising energy release rate. This is due to the soluble fibre in Speedi-Beet, which has a high water holding capacity increasing the amount of fluid in the horses' hindgut. This reservoir can then be drawn upon during prolonged exercise such as endurance riding to help replace water lost through sweating.
