Lucy broke her back 11 years ago in a riding accident and was left paralysed from the waist down. Determined to ride again she began competing in para dressage and quickly excelled, taking part in the World Championships in 2007. Sadly though, a second riding accident in which Lucy broke her left femur, right tibia and shattered her right femur, ended her riding career. Whilst in hospital Lucy came up with the idea of driving and so Golly was broken to harness and has been a complete star. They have now been driving competitively for two years.
Our cones went really well, it was quite a difficult course and I was sure we were going to get a cricket score but we went clear until the last set and so finished with one ball down and two time penalties – for going too fast!

It now gives us an aim to our driving and it will be more serious next month, so let’s hope we get some spring weather so no more cold fingers!
With the sewing machine out I even made two new tail guards, which turned out really well.
December has been a quiet month for us. Thank goodness the weather has not been too bad and we have managed to get out three days a week to just keep Golly ticking over. She hates to be out of work and is always impatient to get going whilst we are harnessing up.
