Here in the UK, the sun makes an odd appearance, but when it eventually does it can be extremely hot!
Susan Archer from Market Rasen owns four horses: two ex-race horses, a Connemara X TB and a cob. All are fed on Speedi-Beet throughout the year, especially during the summer months to get fluids in to them.
Commented Susan: “I was recommended Speedi-Beet by an endurance team many years ago who used it for their horses. They told me it was an excellent way of hydrating even when the horses didn’t want to drink. Since then I have never looked back, all my horses are aged from six to 21 plus and all love it.
“When out competing I also find Speedi-Beet really useful to feed to my horses as it is really quick and easy to make up and after an exhausting day where they need to be rehydrated, I know when the horses are eating their Speedi-Beet they are taking on water too.”
When water is added, Speedi-Beet expands to hold 5X its weight of water, showing how hydrating the feed can be. More water can be added to create a sloppier consistency to hydrate horses further.
But hydration isn’t just important for the warmer months, it is important to keep your horse or pony hydrated throughout the year.
Another benefit of feeding Speedi-Beet is that it contains a high proportion of soluble fibre, mostly pectins, which means its fibre is more easily digested than that found in forage like hay. This makes it a great source of non-heating slow release energy.
Said Susan: “I am a massive supporter of Speedi-Beet as it has and is keeping all my horses in top condition and health and they can’t get enough of it.”
