Nick Ireland has ridden as long as he can remember, starting his career riding Mountain & Moorland ponies on the lead rein. He quickly progressed and joined the York & Ainsty South Pony Club branch where he has enjoyed many opportunities, both mounted and dismounted, regularly representing the branch on Area Teams. Nick holds his B and lungeing test and is keen to take is AH test.
In 2014 a twist of fate brought Billy Bank to Nick when his then horse was lame. With nothing to ride at a forthcoming Blyth Tait clinic Graham Sugden kindly provided a five-year-old 16hh skewbald gelding he had just brought over from Ireland for Nick to borrow. It wasn't the most auspicious of starts when lack of brakes and steering caused Nick to nearly mow Blyth over at one point but by the second day it was clear Billy was here to stay for good.
The pair went onto win the Pony Club Young Event Horse Series that season and together have progressed through the ranks to Pony Club Open level representing the branch at the 2018 Championships.
Billy is a very versatile horse, with a heart of gold, he successfully competes in British Showjumping and British Eventing (BE100) with plans to enter the world of British Dressage.
