Customer feedback is extremely important as it allows a company to understand the market, keep up to date with key trends and understand how customers perceive their products.

The team at British Horse Feeds recently undertook a survey aimed at their customers to find out why they feed Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet.

Key questions were included to pinpoint what product they feed and for what reasons – the results showed that customers feed both products for many and varied reasons although many people still do not realise that both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are so versatile and when fed strategically can be fed to all horses and ponies of any size, weight and workload.

Here we take a closer look at the reasons people choose British Horse Feeds…

Convenience

One of the main selling points is that both products are quick soaking and easy to use. The survey results highlighted that many people feed for convenience with Speedi-Beet being the best choice for a quick soaking beet pulp. The unique cooking process of Speedi-Beet enables water to be more easily absorbed and at a quicker rate than normal beet pulp. No more waiting up to 24 hours for the sugar beet to soak!

Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are soaked feeds which can hold up to 10 times their weight as water. Not only convenient to feed but also hydrating too. Some customers use a small handful of Speedi-Beet in a bucket of water to encourage their horse to drink more water.

High Fibre Diet

The survey also highlighted that people wanted to feed a high fibre diet and that fibre intake was important for their horse. Super fibres, such as beet pulp, found in both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are far more fermentable than grass fibre and so can supply higher levels of slow release energy. Beet pulp can also act as a prebiotic to encourage some fibre fermenters to efficiently digest all dietary fibre.

Adding Condition

Whether it be adding condition over the winter for a poor doer or keeping weight on a fit competition horse throughout the busy season, Fibre-Beet was the popular conditioning feed.

A carefully formulated combination of Speedi-Beet, alfalfa and oat fibre supplemented with biotin, Fibre-Beet can be fed in much larger quantities making it ideal for adding the correct kind of condition and weight without the ‘fizz’.

The added high quality alfalfa allows for optimum condition and provides quality protein for muscle tone and function. Alfalfa can also help promote topline or simply help maintain weight and a healthy, shiny coat.

Veterans

As horses age physiological processes slow down and become less efficient, teeth may become poor and muscles lose their elasticity. Feeding a soaked feed will not only aid digestion but also make chewing easy when teeth are missing or poor.

Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are very palatable and easy to chew so are ideal for veterans. They provide high fibre and produce slow release energy to help ensure a veteran’s energy supply is maintained.

Fibre-Beet can also be used as a forage replacer (up to 60% of the daily forage allowance) which is ideal when grass or hay becomes too hard to chew and digest.

Both products can be soaked using warm water which in turn can help keep the veteran horse’s core temperature up when the weather is cold and allowing him to utilise the energy more effectively.

Digestive Health

This too was a popular reason for selecting a suitable feed. Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet can help maintain a healthy gut function especially for those horses travelling to events when feeding may become disrupted. Both products can be used to help maintain gut fill and hydration during intense exercise.

Fibre-Beet is a carefully designed blend of highly degradable fibre sources that provide optimum fermentation patterns which help keep the digestive system healthy.

When Fibre-Beet is broken down in the horse’s digestive system it produces high levels of butyric acid, which in turn aids the function of the cells of the gut wall, and gives low levels of lactic acid, making it an ideal alkaline feed.

Maintenance Diet

Customers looking for a maintenance diet or who have overweight horses and ponies are recommended Speedi-Beet.

Speedi-Beet is a quick soaking beet pulp which is starch free and unmolassed, and guaranteed to be 95% sugar free. It is an ideal fibre source for laminitics and when fed before turnout can help stabilise the ingestion of sugars present in spring and autumn grass.

Speedi-Beet is extremely versatile. It can be fed in small amounts to overweight horses as a carrier for a multivitamin and mineral supplement or in larger quantities for a maintenance diet or weight gain when fed alongside a balanced diet.

In summary, from the highly strung competition horses to the overweight laminitic pony, Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet prove to be highly versatile and can provide an essential fibre source for all horses and ponies.
