General
-
Micronization is a cooking process which improves nutrient availability. Infra-red rays cause the water molecules present in the feedstuff to rapidly vibrate and heat up. This results in water vaporisation and expansion. In the case of Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet, micronization disrupts the fibre, including that encircling the cells allowing “locked-in” nutrients to become available for subsequent digestion.
-
Unmolassed beet pulp is high in natural beet pectins. These are beneficial in that their structure alters to one that is similar to mucus when in an acidic environment such as the horse’s stomach, consequently protecting the stomach from acid splash
-
Fibre should be the foundation for your horse’s diet to ensure a health digestive system. We would recommend providing the equivalent of 2% per 100kg of their bodyweight in fibre per 24 hours, on a dry matter basis. For good-doers, total forage intake should not be restricted to less than 1.5% bodyweight per day.
-
Speedi-Beet is unmolassed beet that soaks in 10 minutes. Fibre-Beet is a combination of unmolassed beet, alfalfa, oat fibre and Biotin and takes 45 minutes to soak in cold water/15 minutes in warm water. Both products are ideal for horses and ponies prone to laminitis as both are low in starch and sugar, but high fibre.
-
Speedi-Beet soaks to 1-part dry matter to 5 parts water which soaks up to a high-volume feed. The calorie content however is relatively low. For example, one coffee mug (250g) of dry weight Speedi-Beet swells up to approximately one large Stubbs scoop. This is high in volume, whilst keeping calories minimal, therefore making it suitable for a good doer.
-
Fibre-Beet, which is a blend of unmolassed beet and alfalfa is our unbeetable conditioning mash is recommended for those that are looking for additional weight gain and muscle tone whilst controlling starch and sugar intake.
-
“Heating” and “Fizziness” can be the reaction to feeds that are rich in non-fibre carbohydrates such as cereals which are high in starch. Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are low in starch and sugar and high in fibre and therefore unlikely to have any effect.
-
Yes. Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are low in starch and sugar, and therefore suitable for horses and ponies prone to laminitis.
-
Yes. Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are low in starch and sugar, and therefore suitable for horses and ponies prone to gastric ulcers. Both products have been awarded the BETA gastric ulcer mark.
-
Both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are ideal for the veteran horse. Once soaked they are palatable and easy to eat, even if your horse has missing teeth. As horses get older their digestive efficiency declines and so a readily digestible feedstuff, like Speedi-Beet/Fibre-Beet, is ideal. Don’t forget to ensure a supply of vitamins and minerals, by feeding either a feed balancer or broad-spectrum supplement.
-
Yes, both Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet are suitable for all ages.
-
We recommend introducing new feeds into your horses diet slowly over 7 -10 days to avoid gastric upset.
-
As a guide we recommend feeds should be a maximum of 500g of feed per 100kg of bodyweight per meal. For example, a 400kg horse, we recommend not exceeding no more than 2kg per meal. The horse’s stomach is roughly the size of a rugby ball and for optimum digestions meals should be kept small and be fed regular.
-
The dry matter is what is important. Once soaked the majority is water. Additional chew time and hydration is beneficial for your horses overall digestion.
-
Yes. However, we recommend during hot periods fermentation may occur, we recommend making up as fresh as possible and taking advantage of their quick soaking properties.
-
No. Both products require soaking before feeding.
-
Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet have been processed to be a quick soaking flake. This results in the flake being extremely dry and crumbly, and this means it will not compact in the gut. So, if a horse does eat Speedi-Beet or Fibre-Beet dry, the best thing is to give it small amounts to drink at frequent intervals. We would recommend speaking to your vet whenever you are concerned.
-
Store feed in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and pests.

Speedi-Beet
-
Speedi-Beet is the original and the best quick soaking 10-minute beet. A highly nutritious quick soaking unmolassed beet pulp feed that is low in starch, low in sugar and high in fibre.
-
No, traditional sugar beet typically contains much higher levels of sugar and requires a significantly longer soaking time. Speedi-Beet is different. The sugar is removed from the beet and used for human consumption, leaving behind a highly digestible fibre source. The beet pulp is then micronized, creating a quick-soaking, low sugar mash. The original and the best. Find out more on our Speedi-Beet product page.
-
No. We would recommend using either a feed balancer or board spectrum vitamins and minerals supplement to ensure your horse is receiving a balanced diet. There are many positives to Speedi-Beet not being balanced, allowing flexible feeding amounts to meet your horse’s needs.

Fibre-Beet
-
Fibre-Beet is a carefully formulated combination of unmolassed beet, alfalfa and oat fibre supplemented with biotin, sodium and calcium. You’ve got all the benefits of Speedi-Beet with its high level of easily digested soluble fibre for slow energy release along with low starch and sugar. The alfalfa provides quality protein containing essential amino acids for muscle tone development and function.
-
Alfalfa (lucerne) has a high amino acid profile which is excellent for muscle tone development and function. Research has shown that, in the correct proportions, unmolassed beet and alfalfa together give an improvement in nutrient availability that is greater than the individual components. Fibre-Beet combines these qualities in such a way as to provide a “super forage”
-
Fibre-Beet can either be used as part of your horses daily feed as a high fibre mash. Or alternatively is an excellent forage replacement when fed in larger quantities.
-
While both products are based on unmolassed sugar beet pulp, Fibre-Beet also contains alfalfa and oat fibre, making it a higher-calorie feed for horses and ponies that require weight gain and condition.
-
No. We would recommend using either a feed balancer or board spectrum vitamins and minerals supplement to ensure your horse is receiving a balanced diet. There are many positives to Fibre-Beet not being balanced, allowing flexible feeding amounts to meet your horses needs.

However, we would recommend you consult your Veterinary Surgeon first to ensure this does not interfere with your horse’s Veterinary treatment plan.
-
Although people assume the pungency of pepper irritates the stomach, there is no evidence to support this. In fact, pepper, and other ingredients in TurmerAid™, contain components that sustain normal gastric physiology.
