Team Sommerville are been all geared up for the 2016 season with some new and old rides to bring out after a long winter. Sadly, our first planned event at Askham Bryan was cancelled due to weather conditions so our first run for the team was Oasby.
On the Friday we took the older horses with Altaskin Jack doing the Novice. Jack was fantastic and very excited to be out! He flew round having a double clear with a good dressage to claim fourth.
Captain Levade was also very excited to be out having a steady run getting a brilliant dressage of 30 followed by a very classy double clear. Talent flew around the OI finishing on a score of 33 from the dressage which was also followed by a double clear!
On the Sunday we went back to Oasby this time with the babies Zac (Monbeg Messiah) and Chief (Shadow Inspector) in the BE90. With their first event under their belt they behaved and performed like pros!
Chief finished on a score of 24 with a double clear and Zac produced a 25 dressage score and clear XC with an unfortunate rail in the showjumping phase. Such exciting prospects for the future! Watch this space…
Lincoln was the first win of the season!! Altaskin Jack won a Novice section flying around. Jack is seven this year and we can’t wait to see what this season brings. He is aiming for his first Intermediate at Belton this next month and with a final Novice run at Norton Disney we are sure he will step up comfortably.
Burgham was weekend for the number 4! Talent and Jack both finished fourth in their sections; Talent in the OI and Jack in the Novice section.
Our first International of the season was Burnham Market. Talent was the only one in the lorry feeling very special. He had a great first international run and is looking promising for the 2016 season.
Talent’s dressage has improved lots with a respectable mark of 54 and he then did what he does best and flew round both the XC and showjumping for a super double clear!
Talent will be heading for the Advanced at Belton with the aim of going to Bramham.
Over the next couple of weeks, we are entered for a few one day events at Norton Disney and Belton. Cross fingers all goes well. The babies are moving up a step to BE100 and Jack onto Intermediate which is very exciting!
All horses are looking and feeling well on Fibre-Beet and it is very exciting times for the season ahead!
