The Mounted Branch at the City of London Police is
continuing with its daily counter terrorism patrols and each horse is out on
the streets of the City of London for four hours a day. The horses can be
followed on the new City of London Police Twitter account – @CityHorses where they
give daily updates on the horses and their activities.
The new horse in training, Indiana, is doing well and has
started to come in to the City for weekend patrols. He will eventually progress
to week day patrols. Along with a substantial number of patrols in the City
during his training, he will also undertake public order training at a
specialist training establishment, gaining exposure to hostile crowds, smoke
bombs, petrol bombs and all manner of other distractions. He will also have to
undertake a number of ceremonial patrols. These usually take the form of
Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace with our colleagues at the Metropolitan
Police. Once he has been successful at all stages of the training schedule he
will finally be signed off as a police horse.
