The start of the season has been a bit on the busy side at DHI Event Horses!
Normally, I would be planning to start eventing in mid April (generally it’s too muddy before then!), however, due to to the amount of young horses we have ready to go, our season started abnormally early at Epworth at the beginning of March. It was worth the early start, as we gained two 2nd placings in BE100 & three double clears!
It was a great start to our season to gain the support of British Horse Feeds and a supply of Fibre-Beet. Apart from the horses benefiting from the feed, the DHI team on the ground also received clothing that will be well used ~ even the DHI team pups were catered for with a fab all-weather coat ~ BHF think of everyone!
So what’s been happening?
The DHI horses have been performing well and we’re aiming to qualify a few for the Young Horse Champs at Osberton at the end of the year, but in the meantime, we’re working towards consistent and solid results at Novice level.
Generous DHI and Galant DHI have been working towards their Novice level qualifications, ready for a CCI 1* mid season hopefully.
Castor H Z was thrown in the deep end at Lincoln as we had sold a horse we had entered. But to his credit, he jumped a lovely round XC and is an exciting prospect for the future.
Gold Strike Blue DHI has had two BE100 level runs, 3rd at his first, and winning at Bradwall, finishing on a 19.3 dressage – wow!
It’s very satisfying that good winter training is paying off for all of the team at DHI horses, and they’re all performing well on Fibre-Beet and looking fantastic.
We have a lot of young horses in training, ready to compete, and for sale. Such is the nature of our business – I’d like to keep them all!
At this point, all that’s left to say is massive “Good Luck” to fellow sponsored rider James Sommerville, who is heading to his first Badminton, with the super capable “Talent”.

There’s nothing like the feeling of arriving at your first Badminton ~ I remember it like it was yesterday, with The Biz!

The years of work, sacrifice and dedication must not ever be underestimated, and the support of sponsors like British Horse Feeds not only contributes to the journey, but also to the success at the highest level.
We’re looking forward to cheering James and his team on, and will be on the edge of our seats watching ~ hope you enjoy every second Team Sommerville!
