Here we catch up with brand ambassador Jennie Daniels and Tilly the Cob to see how they have been getting on riding side saddle and taking part in historical events.

We’ve had a fantastic start to this year’s competition season. We found out we were the Overall Adult Winner for the Side Saddle On-line Equitation Winter Series.

Easter weekend was our first historical event of the year.  It found us travelling down south to the town of Frome in Somerset.  It was a fabulous weekend with Tilly being a brilliant lead horse. It was an English Civil War re-enactment.

This Jubilee weekend, we are heading to Basing House and Common for a much bigger event, fingers crossed Tilly is just as sensible, although she is clearly feeling the “joys” of spring. The week following we will be heading to Nasby, in Northhamptonshire.

We enjoyed a great day out at our first actual show of the year. We headed to the H.O.P.E show at Weston Lawns. In a very strong side saddle equitation class, we stood third and also finished with third and fourth in another two classes.

We have finished the month on a very busy weekend competing at two side saddle shows.

After a two year break, it was great to have our little local country show back on the calendar and in a lovely new flat field.  We won the Side Saddle Equitation and Costume Concours d’elegance.

On the Sunday we then headed of for our first visit to Herts County Show where we took part in a huge and very strong Side Saddle Equitation class. We finished a respectable sixth overall and fourth in the adult section.

We were also honored to be asked to take part in a large display in the main arena and be one of the lead horses. After a quick rehearsal on foot, the display went well. Side Saddle Association members from around the country had travelled some fair distances to be part of this display, which is part of this year’s “Ride like the Queen” initiative.

We are now flat out getting work done and everything packed for our next historical show and looking forward to a busy summer.

Jennie feeds Tilly Fibre-Beet as part of a balanced diet to keep her in top condition for the show ring.
