Stepping into 2020 Team Sommerville had high hopes for another fantastic season. We had never heard of COVID-19 or even thought about remembering to have your mask on you to nip in the shops to buy polos for the horses!
We started the year with uncertainty but headed off to Oasby Horse Trials. With very little preparation due to the weather we had a great run with two wins, Gabbana in the BE100 and Edison NJ in the Intermediate. Global Ask came away with a second in a BE100 section and we had brilliant runs of Talent and Altaskin Jack in the OI with double clears.
We then stepped into our first lockdown! Unsure of what was to become of the season the whole team felt very deflated. We enjoyed our time having weekends to ourselves and plenty of time to work on improving the horses flicking toes and jumping techniques.

Lockdown one was over and we stepped back out to event, very unsure of what the new protocols had in store. Every event made you feel so secure and we could continue to enjoy our wonderful sport safely. We went onto a few other events such as Frickley Park, a lovely well run event and came away with another win from Global Ask in a BE100 section.

Cholmondeley Castle was another event on the cards for the Intermediate boys Edison NJ and Altaskin Jack, both having great results, showing their eagerness to get back to their jobs.
Edison NJ continued to have a fantastic season picking up another win in the OI at Aston Le Walls. Altaskin Jack had a good run in his first Advanced Class at Aston before having a great result at Richmond a few weeks after, coming 2nd in the OI.
The horses continued through the rest of the season picking up good results such as another win in the Novice at Norton Disney for Global Ask and a 2nd at Oasby. Gabbana had a great final run at Oasby also finishing 3rd in her Novice section.

Edison NJ finished his 2020 season with an incredible run in his first international at Thoresby Park in the CCI L 3*. Posting a fantastic 30.8 on the score card in his dressage, with an amazing double clear inside the time to finish 8th! We were so, so proud of Edison NJ who is called ‘Drizzle’ at home.
The season had finished and we were all looking forward to some down time and Christmas with friends and family. However we were all expecting another lockdown.
Our winter period has been very dull and boring like many others. We have enjoyed (attempted) having quiet time, trying to like our own company. We have been focusing on keeping the horses ticking over for the time they can get their eventing gear back on! The cold weather has proved a huge obstacle in doing so, we are happy to see the greener side past the snow and ice!!!
