All thirty-six starters made the most of the good weather and the long weekend at Monday’s Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Warrington Horse Show near Knutsford, Cheshire.
Hopes were high as all competitors battled to claim one of the three qualification places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show. With just seven combinations through to the jump off, in search of that desired double clear, precision and speed were key.
Just three combinations managed to successfully produce a second clear round, leaving it down to the all-important clock to decide the order of the top three.
Richard Howley from Wetherby, West Yorkshire claimed the win on board Jimmy Mack Van Berkenbroeck, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned by HK Horses. Producing a clean and speedy round, this pair left all poles in place to secure the top spot in an unbeatable time of 38.67 seconds.
Second place was secured by Morgan Kent from Wetherby, West Yorkshire riding Millfield Ester, a 7 year-old bay mare again owned by HK Horses. Hot on Richard’s heels, this combination finished a fraction of a second behind the leaders to claim their double clear in a time of 39.57 seconds.
It was Richard Barton from Bradford, West Yorkshire who scooped the final qualifying place on board Gaye Hartley’s 8 year-old grey mare, Donata. The pair produced their double clear in 40.39 seconds.
