November has been a great month here. The older show horses are on holidays and we are working on the younger projects for next season.
We have been working on a lovely coloured four-year-old cob, Benji. He came to us unbroken just before HOYS. We have slowly worked on him accepting the bit and a roller… introducing him carefully to lungeing and we have done lots of long reining along the lanes and fields. When the day came to getting on him in the first week of November, we were thrilled at how relaxed and accepting he was. He took to the riding like a duck to water. We haven’t done much in the arena with him and prefer to have the youngsters out riding the fields and tracks. He’s now very happily trotting and cantering in open fields and has such a wonderful attitude.
We also have another new cob, an Irish draught called Ginger. We took him out to his first show with us and won, went champion and then stood supreme of show. Even though it was a great day, it was bitterly cold and a very long, but well worth it.
Now December is here we are slowly gearing up for Christmas and the yard is decorated in lights and bells. We go all out here! The horses have no choice but to get into the Christmas spirit.
We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a happy and successful New Year.
