The end of the season is in sight!

With the nights getting darker and the temperature lowering there is only one thing we know is coming… the end of the 2018 season!

The first event in October saw Baby Alvin (Kilcannon Dragonfly) do his first BE90. He did a fantastic test of 26.5 and a lovely showjumping and cross country. We are so excited for Alvin and his owners Jo and Martin from the Fairlight Stud. He is a brilliant horse and we are looking forward to seeing what the 2019 season brings.

On the Sunday we had Bramble, G Star and Billy out competing at Askham Bryan. Bramble did a lovely test and double clear to finish 8th in one of the Novice sections. G Star was rather spritely and excited in the showjumping, however he managed to pull off a double clear and with a fantastic dressage he bagged himself another win in one of the BE100 sections. Billy was also a good boy with a double clear and PB dressage to come 5th in his BE100 section.

Shortly after Askham Bryan, Brackenspa Bramble met her new family. She will be sorely missed at Team Sommerville, Bramble has been a true pleasure to have and ride. You could say she was another yard favourite! However we are so excited to see her excel and give great joy to her new family and we wish her all the best. See you soon Brambeline!

Next up for Team Sommerville was the penultimate event at Norton Disney. Billy was a super star yet again pulling out a fab dressage test and a double clear to finish 7th in the BE100. G Star clocked onto the cross country in the dressage warm up and got very excited that it might be his turn next. A very tactfully ridden test by James, G Star managed to keep his cool inside the ring and produced another stellar test, the best in the section. He does like to flick those toes! G Star then did a lovely show jumping, unfortunately rolling just one pole, but in his first ever Novice! He then completed a brilliant cross country round to finish 3rd. We are so excited and proud of this horse and how much he has improved over a short space of time!

G Star is a very excitable character and finds it tricky to keep weight on, however at Team Sommerville we have the secret weapon… FIBRE-BEET!!! It has proven to be amazing at keeping even the most highly strung horses calm and maintaining their condition, our horses are looking fantastic.

Finally the last event of the season was upon us, Aston Le Walls. G Star was off to do his final event, as he came to us late in the year he was the last to finish the season. G Star put in another fantastic performance, standing in pole position after the dressage. The pressure was on for the double clear in his second novice of his career. James and G Star have formed a great bond in such short space of time and were more than up for the job… a double clear inside the time. G Star won his Novice section, making that a brilliant final run for Team Sommerville!

So that’s a wrap! We are now putting the horses into their PJs and ready for some wind down time. Over the winter period we will be keeping you up to date on how we keep horses looking fab without having them going crazy out of work. Lucie and James will also be keeping us updated on wedding plans for 2019

Until next time….KEEP FEEDING FIBRE-BEET!
