It’s been an incredibly busy month for us here. The weather has been so hot… I know we shouldn’t moan, but a drop of rain would be very nice. The ground is incredibly hard and the grass is scorched.
It all started very well with Rachel Cooper and Carnsdale Graffiti winning the HOYS coloured qualifier at Royal Bath and West Show. A great result as this was Albert’s first go at qualifying this year, in fact, Albert has won all of his coloured classes so far!
Then it was on to Midland Counties a few days later where the new boy, Lewis (Formula 1), won the Novice Hunter class. It’s lovely to have a hunter on the yard again. Lewis will just contest the novice classes this year and then come out as an open hunter next season. He’s a fabulous mover and a really lovely horse, we are so pleased so far with his progress.
On 10th June we went to South Derbyshire Show where our four-year-old son, Luke, and his pony Harry contested their first show. Luke was very excited about his debut. He did so well and won two novelty classes and then went champion. He was so proud of his rosettes and sash and actually said next time could he have a blue one, as that’s his favourite colour! We don’t take it too seriously with Luke and we had real fun at the show and lots of ice cream.
We also took baby Benji and he won the coloured class. Benji will now take a little holiday as he was only broken last winter and has done so well, even managing a Royal International qualification. Happy holidays Benji! His next encounter will be some hunting in the autumn.
The next week was a very busy one, as we travelled to Royal Cheshire County where Debbie Harrod’s cob Ginger was reserve champion in the HOYS qualifiers. Max just missed his ticket to HOYS by one place and the next day we travelled to Lincolnshire Show where Max was second in the HOYS maxi cobs, just missing by one place again. The classes are so strong and so for him to stand so highly in all his qualifiers is amazing.
Baby cob, Copenhagen, had an amazing third in the HOYS lightweight Cobs which is a huge achievement as this was his first open class. It’s only his first season and he has won all of his novice classes so far. To top the day off Sid (Churchtown Minstrel) won the HOYS coloured qualifier in a huge class and in great company. Sid was third at HOYS last year.
The next week we travelled to Royal Norfolk Show where Max (The Ringmaster) won the HOYS maxi cob qualifier and booked his place back to HOYS where he was second last year as a four-year-old. This was a great result as Max also won this class last year. A lucky show for him!!
I hope everyone is coping with their horses in this heat and keeping them hydrated. Feeding the Fibre-Beet and Speedi-Beet has given us peace of mind that our team stays hydrated even when eating.
