Jack produced a lovely test on the Friday scoring a 37. Jack showed a huge amount of potential and class in his test, being his first big international in a huge atmosphere he handled the pressure immensely.
Next on the cards for Jack was the show jumping, with a full height technical course… it still proved no problem for this exciting young horse. Jack flew around the show jumping leaving all the fences up and within the tight time allowed!
Following on from the show jumping on Saturday was the cross country. The course was causing a lot of problems within the CIC3* section… However for Jack again it caused no problems, Jack flew around with a fantastic time to finish up 12th in a big international section!
We are so thrilled that Jack is really showing his talent and quality to become another horse in our team to reach the top!
Next up was Warwick Hall with Rocktop Rebel running in the BE100. Topper (as he’s known at home) did another beautiful test to score 23 and with a double clear to follow he clinched his first win!
Later in month Team Sommerville embarked on a new adventure and hopefully one of many to come… James and Talent had received their first International call up to represent Great Britain for the Nations Cup team in Strzegom, Poland.
On Sunday 24th June we packed up all Talent’s and James’ gear into ‘Yolanda’ the truck belonging to Will Oakden’s team. We were very lucky to pair up with Will’s team to make the long journey to Poland. Jemma and Eilidh were the amazing two girls that we were with for the week… And what an amazing week and amazing company to be around! Eilidh made sure that we were all on time, looked after and amazingly well fed! Jemma and Eilidh were also looking after the wonderful Cooley Ramiro for Will.
All the grooms did an amazing job all week, making sure all the Team GBR horses were looked after thoroughly.
With a long journey travelling from Hull to Rotterdam we stopped over at Dortmund to let the horses have a nice rest ready for the long journey to Strzegom which was around another 10 hour journey.
We finally arrived at Strzegom around 3pm on the Tuesday. The horses both travelled amazingly well and we also discovered the horses had become best friends during their travels!
On Wednesday we had a quiet day to settle Talent in and get to work. Talent arrived excited and ready to do his job, James rode him on the Wednesday and said he felt very relaxed and happy.
On the Thursday Talent had the trot up to prepare for in the afternoon. Lucie had prepped and got him all smart and ready to do his trot, we also received all of our Team GBR kit! Talent sailed through trot up and was accepted to continue into the competition with dressage on the Friday afternoon.
Talent warmed up so well for the dressage, we really felt confident that he was calm and relaxed to complete a lovely test. As soon as Talent went into the arena he became very excited so he was not able to show his flashiest moves, however he kept a lid on his explosion and still completed all the correct movements and some very good flying changes! Completing with a score of 35.
The final trot up was early Sunday morning and Talent was fit healthy and ready to complete his competition, flying through trot up… it was onto the show jumping next!
Talent was first up for the British team in the show jumping, and Talent being Talent he produced a foot perfect clear inside the time!
What a fairy tale week as not only did Talent do a fantastic double clear, he also finished up 5th in a competitive International class, meaning that the team finished up in Silver position in the Nations Cup at Strzegom!!
We are so hugely proud of our amazing Talent and hopefully this will be the first of many appearances for Team GBR for James!
We know that Talent’s amazing diet with Fibre-Beet and Gain with added TurmerAid accounts for his amazing ability to complete such big events looking and feeling amazing.
