The final British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier took place during Pembrokeshire County Show in Wales on Wednesday. Course Designer Peter Gillespie set a challenging first round track that only seven of the initial starting combinations could conquer. This kept their hopes of gaining one of the three qualifying tickets on offer for the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show alive.
The on-form Mark Edwards from Cowbridge, South Glamorgan took the top spot on Martyn Edwards’ homebred 8 year-old gelding Flying Tinker II. They flew home in a time of 39.25 seconds leaving Angie Thompson and Lucinda Cambell’s Flint K, a 9 year-old Dutch bred gelding, to settle for second after posting a time of 40.06 seconds.
The last remaining qualifying ticket and third place went to the recently crowned International Stairway Champion Helen Tredwell and Colin Garratt’s Hannelina, a 7 year-old Dutch bred mare; they posted a time of 43.55 seconds.
